Gamebryo to Incorporate AGEIA PhysX SDKPublished by hellblazer55 on Wednesday, January 18, 2006
AGEIA Technologies, and Emergent Game Technologies announced today that they have signed a licensing agreement to integrate the AGEIA Phys™ SDK into version 2.2 of Emergent’s Gamebryo 3D graphics engine & tools. Emergent (who recently merged with NDL, the company that developed Gamebryo) will support the AGEIA PhysX processor as part of a fully integrated cross-platform physics solution for PCs, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Gamebryo version 2.2 is expected to be available by the 2006 Game Developers Conference (GDC) to be held in late March.
Gamebryo is one of the game industry’s most licensed graphics engines, with more than 70 titles currently in development, and has recently been used to create hit games such as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
With many clients demanding a fully integrated physics solution, Emergent turned to AGEIA for its high-performance, multithreaded AGEIA PhysX SDK and its groundbreaking AGEIA PhysX processor.
“The AGEIA PhysX SDK provides the best physics solution for game developers,” said John Austin, Emergent’s senior vice president of business development. “Integrating AGEIA PhysX technology with Gamebryo gives us a potent cross-platform physics solution that will work with PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the PC, especially those equipped with the AGEIA PhysX processor. And our customers developing PC games will be able to create games that are even more realistic.”
Building on the success of Gamebryo, Emergent is developing technologies that will revolutionize the process of building, testing and managing games for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The AGEIA PhysX SDK will provide the physics component of this technology.
“Emergent offers one of the most comprehensive offerings of tools and technologies in the games industry,” said Kathy Schoback, vice president of content acquisition at AGEIA. “We are committed to complementing their strengths in 3D graphics and tools with the best physics technology available.”
