As reported by Adelaide Now, the discussion over whether to add an R18+ ratings category for videogames in Australia has been scheduled for an undisclosed date in April.
The timing of the discussion means that it will take place after state elections in South Australia and Tasmania on March 20. South Australia is, of course, home base for anti-game Attorney General Michael Atkinson, often fingered as the lone holdout among his fellow AGs when it comes to backing an R18+ rating category.
In related R18+ news, the Australian website GoldCoast penned an editorial backing the addition of an adult videogame rating category, stating that it should be up to parents to decide what their children view.
Problems are occurring between Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision, and they're not digital problems.
According to a G4 source, a "bunch of bouncer-types" have turned up at the Infinity Ward studios, unannounced. Studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West met with Activision this morning, and both haven't been seen since.
Now though, Infinity Ward CTO Jason West has reportedly updated his Facebook status as "Jason West is drinking. Also, unemployed."
West's LinkedIn profile has also been updated:
"President/Game Director/CCO/CTO Infinity Ward
January 2001 – March 2010 (9 years 3 months)"
So for the moment, it looks like Jason West is no longer part of developer Infinity Ward. When updates reach us, we'll let you know.
UPDATE: Some more updates to bring you, as Activision are investigating "breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward." as revealed by an SEC filing made this morning by the publisher.
It goes on to say that the "matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation. At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."
After widely reported offline and online PlayStation 3 errors began surfacing late last night and early this morning (depending on your geographical location), game developers are now reporting similar errors with their specialised PS3 debug units.
Due to an endless looping error message, the debug units are apparently being sent into uninterruptible rebooting cycles, which is thought to be related to the problems users are experiencing with regular retail PS3s.
Even if your PS3 console has been offline, there is a high probability (if it’s an older model) that the internal date may have reverted back to 12/31/1999, as reported by Joystiq, which has caused data corruption errors and resulted in newly acquired content, such as downloaded games and awarded in-game Trophies, to not be recognised and ‘lost.’
Sony is aware of the problem and is currently hard at work on a fix, and we should hear from the company soon in this regard.
[Update] Sony believes that they may have found a solution to the problems plaguing PS3 owners, and that a fix may be available within 24 hours, but for now warns PS3 owners not to use the console until further notice [End of Update]
Fenix left an abrupt battle at the end of Gears of War 2 leaving many fans of the series disappointed. Then arose the debate that since Microsoft had signed a two game exclusive deal with Epic Games for the Gears franchise the next would indeed be a multiplatform game which would satiate hungry PlayStation 3 owners.
This was followed by nuggets of information about the sequel to be developed on Unreal 4.0 engine, which were later debunked by Mike Capps. With Halo: Reach being announced for this year most loyalists of the platform already have a reason to rejoice on the Xbox 360. However we might just have another bit of information that will make them exalt in joy. Recently, we discovered a LinkedIn profile belonging to an individual called “Drew Moxon” who has worked on the Gears of War franchise for Microsoft Game Studios in 2009. The icing on cake comes when he recently joined MGS in February 2010 as an associate producer for a game none other than “Gears of War”. There is enough meat that connects this with the sequel to one of the largest grossing franchises for the Xbox 360.
Gears of War 3 is expected to continue Fenix’s adventures through the land of Locust which has now been plagued by civil war dividing them up into factions. There was another piece of information that we had heard some time ago about the developers working hard to craft out a better experience for chainsaw duels. We hope that Epic irons out all the issues that plagued the multiplayer component of Gears 2 and constructs a model that is as exciting and laced with action as the original. With all three entrants pushing their best foot forward this year, 2011 seems to be quite a probable year for the entry of the sequel.
Rico parachutes back for the second installment of Just Cause on Xbox 360 with a demo to be released as early as Thurs. March 4th, 2010. The new demo will be one of the biggest freeroaming demos of all time and for fans of openworld games.
Mike Oldman, Community Manager at Square Enix has just announced via his twitter feed about the "Just Cause 2" demo which will be arriving on the Xbox Live Marketplace shortly.
"The Just Cause 2 demo will hit Xbox Live, PSN and Steam on March 4th," he tweeted.
The demo will feature around 35 square miles of Panau Island and is rumored to be available as early as Thursday March 4th, 2010 for Xbox 360 (Next Week - Woot!).
"The Just Cause 2 demo is simply massive and with so much to do, the replay value is enormous," said Lee Singleton, General Manager of Square Enix London Studios.
"Just Cause 2" is scheduled for released on March 23rd in the USA and March 26th for Europe/Australia.
