CHAIR ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES “UNDERTOW” FOR XBOX LIVE® ARCADE
-- Underwater Action-Shooter Offers 16-player Online Combat; Exclusive Trailer Provides Early Game Play Preview --
Provo, Utah – April 23, 2007 – Chair Entertainment Group, an independent video game production company, today announced its newest original property, Undertow, is currently in development for Xbox LIVE® Arcade, the premier destination for digitally distributed, downloadable games. Expected to go live worldwide this summer, Undertow is powered by the Unreal Engine 3 and offers an unprecedented 16-player online experience for Xbox LIVE Arcade.
“We’ve really enjoyed designing Undertow for Xbox LIVE Arcade because it’s given us the freedom to create a pure gaming experience focused on fun, addictive game play” said Donald Mustard, creative director at Chair Entertainment. “Whether a player is looking for hours of intense multiplayer or they have just 10 minutes for the ultimate gaming experience, we’re confident Undertow will be as exciting to play as it has been for us to create.”
The fast-paced action of Undertow features two multiplayer modes for up to 16 players, and a robust 15-level single player and co-op campaign. Players navigate the stormy seas as one of four unique, upgradeable unit types ranging in ability from the fast and agile to the large and powerful. Players then earn points for adding upgrades by killing enemies, completing objectives, and taking checkpoints. The non-stop conquest-style battles of Undertow push the envelope of on-screen effects and combat action with stunning graphics and special effects.
To coincide with the announcement, Chair Entertainment today released a 30 second game play trailer which provides an early look at the game in action. The trailer can be viewed right here on 360-hq in our media area.
According to a post on Bethesda production director Ashley Cheng's blog, a patch to fix the "formID" bug in the Oblivion expansion Shivering Isles will be available for download on the Xbox 360 Monday, April 30. The patch has been available for PC since April 12, as well as some fan-created solutions prior to that.
There's a chance the patch will not make its purported Monday deadline, but the good news still is that there is a patch and it is complete and coming very soon. The critical bug would essentially appear late in the game and cause items to disappear.
Cheng, whose current project is Fallout 3, has also posted a handful of YouTube videos featuring the various introductions from the Fallout series. Maybe they're considering a similar opening for their version? Time will tell.

Codemasters recently announced "Race Driver One" for the Xbox 360. The title is now in development at Codemasters Studios, creators of genre-leading motorsport video games, and will arrive in 2008 for leading console platforms and PC.
"Race Driver One" will be a true evolution for the series, which first appeared as the TOCA (DTM/V8) Touring Car games (1997–2000) and became the TOCA (DTM/V8) Race Driver series (2002-2006). Taking the series from ultimate racing simulation to ultimate racing stimulation, Race Driver One™ will be the next technical showcase for Neon, the studio's proprietary middleware system that is already driving Colin McRae: DIRT in incredible detail.
Challenging players to become the number one race driver in a new world of exhilarating motorsport, "Race Driver One™" will take players on a tour like never before; to beautifully realised racing locations through Europe, the U.S., Japan and beyond. The game will feature the most extensive range of events in the series, combining official circuit-based championships with road races and urban street competitions.
"As each generation of gaming formats shifts up a gear, so does this series and "Race Driver One" is set to evolve the previously headlined TOCA (DTM/V8) titles as much as DIRT has the Colin McRae series," says Gavin Raeburn, Executive Producer at Codemasters Studios.
"Combining our racing heritage with the Neon engine, "Race Driver One" will create a world that goes far beyond the traditional boundaries of motorsport gaming, taking players from the most prestigious race circuits to road and street events around the globe. A completely fresh career structure will engage players in an unprecedented range of racing styles as they build a team capable of becoming number one. The Neon engine will be expanded to deliver a new level of visual detail, physics and an astonishing car damage system."
