“Halo: Reach” Generates Record-Breaking $200M in First 24 Hours and secures it's place as the Biggest US Entertainment Launch of 2010.
It’s official: the “Halo” video game franchise has made history once again. Microsoft today announced that “Halo: Reach” generated more than $200 million in sales in the United States and Europe in the first 24 hours of its release. Based on U.S. sales alone, “Halo: Reach” is now the biggest entertainment launch of 2010 in the U.S., eclipsing the three-day opening weekends of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters like “Iron Man 2,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Toy Story 3” in a single day.
“‘Halo: Reach’ is the biggest game Microsoft has ever released, and its launch has already surpassed every game, movie and entertainment launch this year,” said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “Every major installment has grown in scope and popularity, firmly cementing the ‘Halo’ franchise as one of the most popular entertainment properties in the world over the past decade.”
The blockbuster prequel to the “Halo” trilogy, “Halo: Reach” tells the tragic and heroic story of Noble Team, a group of Spartans, who through great sacrifice and courage saved countless lives in the face of impossible odds. The planet Reach is humanity’s last line of defense between the encroaching Covenant and their ultimate goal, the destruction of Earth. The legendary battle of Reach will set into motion one of the most iconic sagas in entertainment history.
The following series of videos are based on Discovery Channel's Mythbusters. Use these brief documentaries to better your skills, expand your knowledge, and win debates about what absurd things are doable or not.
Man, what are you talking about? You can't kill chopper pilots with pistols. That's just crazy ta--oh, wait. Yeah, you can do that. And here's the video evidence to prove it.
I've debated the logistics of Battlefield: Bad Company 2's mechanics for longer than I care to share. I've shared anecdotes of absurd situations with friends who immediately said I was lying. I've questioned the legitimacy of their claims, too -- yeah, you killed a chopper using a repair tool like I saw Bigfoot flying a UFO.
The hardcore folks running the PC Industries YouTube channel cooked up a great idea to solve these Bad Company controvercies once and for all: a Battlefield-based video series based on Discovery Channel's Mythbusters.
This ongoing quest for the truth plainly solves the biggest conflicts in the Bad Company community by capturing the result on video. For example, many speculated you can flip tanks using the UAV. These guys got the definitive answer -- no, you definitely can't lift tanks.
The best part of these mini documentaries? You'll learn, and you can use this knowledge to become a better player.
If you've ever wondered whether or not you can repair a chopper from the inside, how to untag yourself after a sniper spots you, or if your UAV can kamikaze-kill a helicopter, check the videos below for the answers.

EA Sports president Peter Moore doubts Microsoft and Sony will invest in new consoles for at least three years.
The ex-Microsoft and SEGA executive described the launch of Kinect and PlayStation Move as "tantamount to new platform launches", and insisted "we're nowhere near mass market pricing".
"If you look at the history of the pricing, we're in mid-cycle," Moore told Eurogamer in a new interview published today.
"Chronologically, this is the last few years of previous cycles, but when you look at pricing, we're mid-cycle.
"Over the years, $199 and below has been where 75 to 80 per cent of business is done. With the exception of 360 and the Wii, PlayStation 3, which seems to have a lot of momentum, is not even close to that.
"So we're still to reach a price point across all three consoles where historically 75 to 80 per cent of business is done. Yeah, I think we're in mid-cycle."
Microsoft has said Kinect, which allows gamers to play games without a controller, will extend the life of the Xbox 360 by five years.
And Sony has repeated its belief that this generation will last significantly longer than previous ones.
