XBOX LIVE ARCADE -- This review is comparing it's graphics, gameplay, and sound to other live arcade games, not to full retail games, therefore a 10 is great graphics but still well below what can be achieved with multi-million dollar budgets.
Let me start off by saying that I have been waiting on this game for a while. I played the demo on the PC for it's counterpart "Marble Blast Gold". It's a budget game that was developed by a set of independent developers known as "Garage Games". Considering the lack of funding and the lack of developers in such a small team, they have created a really terrific game.
This game will be compared to Marble Madness for the Arcade and NES, honestly I would compare it more to the Super Monkey Ball series. There are several different marble skins to choose from, ranginig from all different types of colors and designs.
The powerups on the levels range from handy to use, to gotta have them to complete the level. There are three difficultly levels, "Beginner", "Intermediate", and "Advanced". I've completed the beginner track, and it has 20 levels that show you the ropes of how to play the game. In each difficultly the levels get increasingly harder as you go along them. I was able to complete almost all of them on the first attempt, some I had to go back and try once again.
The achievements on this game are based on completing the levels, completing the levels under the required amount of time, and doing well in the multiplayer side of the game.
This game is sure to give you hours of entertainment, and even get some non-gamers in your house wanting to hog your new Xbox 360. I suggest everyone atleast try out the demo.
PROS:
- Some of the best graphics so far on the XBLA(Xbox Live Arcade).
- Really addictive gameplay.
- The learning curve is easy to pick up, but it allows for a lot of challenge in the later puzzles
- Great puzzles and courses.
|
CONS:
- The use of the right stick for the camera and the left stick for movement might confuse some casual gamers.
- Some of the puzzles can frustrate you until you quit. (I do not recommend this, keep playing)
- You're a marble, no character to relate to. (not really a con, just trying to think of some bad things)
