This is a brilliant game, it basically incorporates all the best parts of Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and all the other games of that style, but where they are all either ridiculous or overly difficult or just plain boring, Darksiders has a fantastic mythology behind it, the kind that if you read and enjoy the "Spawn" comics you will richly enjoy.
***SPOILERS ALERT!!*** (I don't know how to blank them out, sorry!!)
Hell and Heaven are at war, mankind comes along and they form a truce and include the race of man in their planned armageddon type battle royal, which is supposed to happen at a preordained time. All of this is watched over by a council, and their enforcers are the "Horsemen". The game kicks off when the seals around the pact are broken by some dastardly bad guy who I haven't met yet and the war happens early.
War, the 1st horseman arrives to judge everyone as is preordained but it turns out that its not supposed to have happened yet, he is blamed and loses his powers, he is chucked back to earth and allowed to invesitgate the goings on. This leaves it wide open for you to regain his lost powers and tear all manner of demons apart in his quest for revenge and answers.
The reason I like this game so much is because, unlike DMC, its combat is enjoyable and not a chore to master, the characters are awesome and vary nicely, (massive stone titans who act as gates, Vulgrim, the watcher etc) the mythology is more to my liking (I don't like stupid Japanese hairdos and nonsensical preachings about stuff, I like it plain and gritty, and while Darksiders certainly isn't plain, its much easier to follow than any game like this Capcom could come up with) and the weapons and moves simply kick ass!!
 If you wanted to enjoy games like DMC but they just got under your skin because you couldn't get the most out of them unless you 100% perfected the combat and the story left you scratching your head thinking "ok that dude with the funny hair is angry.... why?" then you'll love this game. It takes all the best concepts and makes a more enjoyable, western mythology styled game while still being utterly awesome in scope and design. The voice acting is top notch and some of the things that they get on the screen with minimal load times are just incredible. Definitely worth the 17.99 I spent on Play.com!
