Burger King has partnered with both Microsoft and Blitz Games in order to make three games for both the Xbox and the Xbox 360. When you go to a participating store between Novemeber 19th, and December 24th you will be able to pick up your choice of games. These games vary in genre, you will have a choice between racing, action, and an adventure/stealth style game.
Blitz Games is the company who developed the Xbox title Fusion Frenzy, one of the few party style games released, so it comes to no real surpise that these games are fun, but shallow.
Big Bumpin' is the title of the first game, as the title suggests you'll be bumping in the game with bumper cars. You can choose from a few Burger King characters or edit one to be your own in this game. The single player game is set in either a single match contest, or in a tournament based ladder. You have 5 different types of mini-games in various maps. Last Man Standing is a battle to the end, either bump the players off of the map or hit them hard enough to make them stop coming, either way make sure you are the only one going at the end of the match. Shockball, this is basically "Hot Potato" where you have a timer and whoever has the Shockball at the end will blow up and take damage. Power Surge is a collection type game where you go from Point A pick something up, and drop it off at Point B while trying to avoid the competition. The best two game types evolve around a puck, the first is Bumpin' Hockey where the gameplay is similar to normal hockey, that is the puck goes into the goal. The last minigame is Own the Puck where you try to keep in contact with the puck until you rack up enough time to win the match.
These games are good but they wear thin pretty quickly, in order to make them a bit more playable, Blitz has added powerups to help you and harm others during the game. Some are game specific like the puck magnet can of course only be used while in a game with a puck, where others are pretty standard to this type of game, speed boosts, repairs, and shields.
These games would fair decently well without the Burger King marketing and being put on the Xbox Live Arcade, after all that is exactly the type of gameplay you can expect, something that you will pickup while randomly waiting on some food, and then play once you get home and won't worry about not playing it again because you only spent $4 on it.
The online gameplay in this is much better than in Pocketbike Racer, but I'm sure you will go back to the games that you have been playing before these titles came out.
The graphics are up to par with what is expected out of an arcade title, however when put against something with a much larger budget just will not hold up. Lots of lights and flashes and background effects look good, and may distract some people, but these games aren't about graphics really, they are just some marketing tools.
The audio is subpar, carnival style music is the background, a few effects for the crashes, and that's pretty much all you get, but still when looking at the price tag, you can't expect much for what you pay.
Overall this game is good for an hour or two, but you will go back to another game and completely forget about Big Bumpin'. Xbox Live play is a nice element especially for those with closely knit friends lists.
